Roche U16s welcomed Cuchulainn Gaels to Pairc de Roiste on Sunday afternoon for their penultimate round robin match. The underfoot conditions were soft but otherwise conditions were perfect and conducive to free flowing football.
The hosts started the better but resolute defending from the Omeath lads restricted them to a solitary DD Reilly point. A monster James Sharkey free levelled it but then two quick fire goals from DD Reilly through some brilliant teamwork gave the boys in blue a cushion at the water break. Unfortunately the Cuchulainn Gaels discipline deserted them after the break and two red cards effectively sealed their fate in the match.
Roche pushed on in the second half and an absolutely sublime pass from Cathal Corcoran allowed full forward Eoin Maguire to notch a three-pointer. Some accurate sharp shooting from Sean Conlon, who ended with 0:04 and another goal from Corcoran pushed Roche out to a comfortable lead. Cuchulainn Gaels to their credit kept on trying until the end and only for a wonderful point blank block from Andrew McArdle denied them a certain goal.
Final Score: Roche 5:11 Cuchulainn Gaels 0:07.
Their final game is against St Pats in two weeks time.
