Roche 4-14 Mattock Rangers 7-19
The U16 girls bowed out of action with a loss against Mattock Rangers in the semi-final of the C Championship on Wednesday night.
Fielding just three full U16s – with a host of key players unavailable – the girls performed admirably and were in contention until the injury-enforced departure of Rachel McKay.
Still, though, the performance was filled with effort and some of the foot- and hand-passing up the field was of the highest quality, leading to some wonderful scores.
Mattock cut loose after McKay’s exit, though Emmets battled through the encounter and, indeed, were outscored by just a point in the second half, 3-7 to 3-6 – Megan Roe and Erin Gorham among those to find the net.
Credit goes to the management team of Eddie Briscoe, Deirdre Briscoe, Aoife Halligan, Katie Halligan, Sarah McArdle and Jennie McCourt for their dedication in training and improving the team, who took a step up in grade this season, competing all through in the B division.
