Dundalk Gaels 1-8 Roche Emmets 14-6
Another stunning display secured the U14 girls their second championship victory of the group campaign on Monday night as they departed Páirc na Gaeil with a comprehensive triumph.
An early scoring burst by Niamh Norton – who had played for the Louth girls’ soccer representative team prior to pulling on her Roche kit – set the tone for the victors, who also had Erin Gorham, Sophie Corcoran, Kayleigh O’Hare, Caoimhe Dunne, Ava Briscoe and Zoe Treacy in shooting form.
Roche led 2-1 to 0-1 at the opening waterbreak, an advantage they extended with seven goals in the second quarter, including a hat-trick from the prolific Erin Gorham.
Minus Martina Kirk, Erin Grier and the Dolan sisters, among others, it was a sublime team performance with the starting backline all performing excellently – Chloe Duffy, Aimee McKee, Evanna Corcoran, Aoibheann Reilly, Nicole Murray and Cara McCourt all getting considerable mentions in the post-match discussions.
The girls face St. Fechin’s in Roche next Monday night in what will be their fourth group assignment.
