Glen Emmets 3-11 Roche Emmets 4-4
The U14 girls were unlucky to lose a thrilling game in Tullyallen on Wednesday evening.
Glen Emmets started the stronger and were 11 points clear at the interval, 3-5 to 0-3 – Erin Grier (2) and Erin Gorham having accounted for the visitors’ points.
Sophie Corcoran and Nicole Murray also caught the eye during the opening period, though every player upped their game in the second half as the girls in blue came out fighting in the third quarter.
Grier lifted the net with a fine goal before Ava Briscoe struck for a major to reduce the deficit further.
The Dolan sisters, Aoibheann Reilly and Evanna Corcoran were now at the fore in defence as Glen Emmets managed just two points before the second waterbreak.
It was game on, too, as Kayleigh O’Hare and Gorham struck for three-pointers and when Zoe Treacy hit over a point, the teams were level.
However, the girls’ stunning comeback effort was unsustainable as the south Louth side finished the stronger against their tiring opponents, four late points swinging the tide their way.
Special mention goes to Amy McKee and Caoimhe Dunne, both U12 players, who stepped into respective berths when needed, giving outstanding displays.
