Roche Emmets 1-4 Geraldines 6-11
The senior ladies were taught some harsh lessons by county champions Geraldines at Páirc de Róiste on Sunday morning.
Slack play and individual errors were punished in the extreme as Gerry Curran’s side fell to their second comprehensive loss in a fortnight.
Emmets – without Aoife Halligan, Louise Byrne, Sarah McArdle and Caoimhe Treanor, among others – actually started the fixture brightly and were in front when Jennie McCourt knocked over a nice point on the run.
But that served to merely poke the Gers bear as the visitors showed awesome pace and power – and no lack of skill – to incisively work their way through Roche’s porous rear-guard.
Emma Gartland, Abbi O’Connor, Sandra Neary and Louise Corcoran were hugely impressive as Gers moved the ball about as though playing basketball, heads up, passing sharply.
The winners had 2-5 registered by the first waterbreak – their second major coming from the penalty spot while McCourt hit Emmets’ sole reply – and had pushed 4-8 to 0-3 ahead by the interval, Roche’s leading light, Abi Keenan, getting on the scoresheet.
Keenan accounted for Roche’s only scores of the second period, 1-1, and while Gers eased off on the scoring rate, two further goals put a more than comprehensive guise to the scoreboard.
Roche, seeking to get back to winning ways, host pointless St. Mochta’s next weekend.
