Our U16 girls chalked up their second win on the bounce with a commanding win over Mattock Rangers in Collon on Wednesday evening.
The girls showed their intent from the throw-in and registered six points on the scoreboard before Mattock responded, and that cushion was intact at half-time with Roche at 0-10 to Mattock’s 1-1.
Martina Kirk was outstanding in goals, making several goal-line clearances and her distribution up the field was fantastic. The full- and half-back lines were organised and gritty as a defensive unit.
Roche continued to have the edge in the second half through midfield, enabling a good supply of balls in to the hard-working forwards who were creating lots of scoring opportunities.
With four green flags being raised for the girls in blue in a dominant third quarter, the result was never in doubt.
Increased fitness levels, fine kick passing and ball handling skills were evident throughout the game.
Credit must go to every girl on the field but also to enthusiastic senior stars – Jenni McCourt, Sarah McArdle, Katie and Aoife Halligan – that joined the coaching team for 2021. Their experience and quality coaching skills are clearly benefiting the younger Roche players.
Next game is away to Naomh Fionnbarra on Wednesday, June 23, at 7:30pm.
